The worst in the world...

I'm proud of myself and my husband. He has let me paint the yellow living room. It is now--get this-- Pebble beach and we have a feature wall (around the fireplace) that is painted cappuccino 2. :) This is very happy and sounds very cool, but Actually it is rather amusing, because pebble beach --which is supposed to be a tan in the pink hues family --looks very purple in some light. And the cappuccino which is supposed to match it. Well it actually does match in some light, but when it looks purple....well just to say that mom would hate it! Very contemporary--actually more than I intended. Add to this that the rug coming is blue.... I am the worst decorator in the world. I need my friends and sisters here badly! I can try to be cool-- but I'm just not. The problem is, w/ the paint and paying to have it painted (seriously we are not talented enough to do it ourselves) it cost so much money, I absolutely can't complain to my husband. He was not going to let me spend the money in the first place, because the yellow was okay with him. And now the colors resemble the nursery section of the zoo...

Which brings me to a future chat on being the worst housewife in the world. I want my professional job back. I'm lousy at this household engineer thing!

Oh, and the infinity company... Our stuff just left america and should be in England September 12 and then it will travel another long journey to NIreland. I'm hoping for first of October. They are the worst company in the world.

De,

You aren't cool, you are so much better than cool. You are vibrant, involved, thoughtful, caring, and loving. Any of those attributes trump cool every day of the week. As to being a good "housewife," you took years learning your working woman skills. Give youself a year or two before you throw in the towel.

As to the decorating. You are married to a guy who didn't mind the psycho yellow walls, he won't fuss about this either. When I come visit, I will tape and paint any/all rooms you want. I love to paint, and can provide photos of previous work for your approval (grin). You are wonderful, and handling this move so gracefully.

This has been a very trying experience, and you are doing an exemplary job. Don't be so hard on yourself. Hugs, Hugs, Hugs and more Hugs!

Oh Deanna! Of course with cool paint names like "cappuccino" and "pebble beach" it SOUNDS like the paint would look incredible. Who would have thought it would be PURPLE! I'm sure it is only purple to you and to everyone else it will be a great shade of tan. That's great that Mark did let you paint. You are a great decorator and I'm sure your style will come through even the "purple" paint. Things will be much better when you get your container. Love and miss you. been thinking of you lots.
Love,
Janie

Didn't you know that pebble beach/purple is all the rage right now? I just saw it in the latest Pottery Barn catalog, I'm sure of it. Or maybe it was Crate and Barrel... I'm sure the NIreleanders think you have the best taste with these latest colors and progressive blue rug. "And this here is how we decorate in America!" You can say with flourish and pride!

Love ya!

D Louise
run right down to laura ash and Yourself ahome catalog...then put some pictures up on your blog. I think you saud 2 things
#1 you are coming back stateside in Nov.
#2 you need curtains it would delight me beyond words to work on an easy fix

A dark chocolate drape would be just the thing to ensure the color you want and I know just where to get them and what to do to make them chic...
i'll just have to call you

Ashley, the chocolate drape does bring me comfort-- as does Laura Ashley!!! I'll post pictures of the room sometime so you can comment. (but of course we have to wait until my rug and pictures come--app. 1 month)

Stop being so hard on yourself. If the colors actually look so hideous (I guessing they don't), I'm sure a friend or relative would be happy to help you out with painting the walls another color. Have you ever thought of consulting your mum-in-law? She would probably have some great ideas...

P.S. Shane just walked by and said I have these little horns protruding from the top of my head. Wonder what those are doing there???

Tamara, you are rotten :) I don't think I'll be consulting her. I'll just deal with it!

Personally, I think a yellow kitchen and pink-ish tan and purplish pebble living room go great with an electric blue sunroom and a navy oriental with a touch of John Wesley and license plates. I'm laughing so hard I might pee my pants.

Better run. David wants me to iron his pants and it's 10:19 and he'll be waking me up around 4:30.

Your decorating woes are keeping me from my dishes.

As for you really being bad at decorating...whatever! We've all seen your cute apartments - from the Tiffany one room on up they've been full of comfort, class, style and DE-ness.
